Course #1 Description
Course #1: Shaping, Cleaning, and Obturation of Root Canal Systems
This 2-day course consists of a combination of lecture and laboratory work (about 50% lecture and 50% hands-on working with extracted teeth). 18 hours of CE credit. The emphasis of the course is on negotiating canals and shaping canals with nickel titanium files but includes a large amount of other information. The course material is relevant to all dentists with an interest in endodontics and of all levels of experience. It covers a lot of material. Even if you already have a considerable amount of endo experience, it is highly unlikely that this course will be too basic for you. See Course Objectives below for more details.
The other 2-day course offered by Endodontics Unsponsored is titled Re-treatment and Other Complex Cases.
Upcoming Course #1 Dates:
- Friday-Saturday, December 18-19, 2026 – SPACE AVAILABLE

- To learn more about finding canals.
- To learn more about how to negotiate to the terminus of the majority of calcified canals.
- To learn more about electronic apex locators.
- To better understand the concepts of using rotary and reciprocating nickel titanium files to enlarge even the most severely curved canals.
- To learn more about the various nickel titanium file systems presently available (rotary and reciprocating), the differences between them and their advantages and disadvantages.
- To learn more about conserving dentin when shaping canals so that root fractures are hopefully less likely to develop in the future.
- If there is a file system that you are comfortable with, to learn how to make it more effective and reduce the risk of file separation.
- To learn more about irrigants used to clean root canal systems and how to use them safely.
- To learn more about obturation of root canal systems. Single cone, vertical and lateral condensation techniques are discussed.
- To learn more about antibiotic and pain medications in endodontics.
- To learn more about perforation repair.
* WARNING: This course will not try to sell you on a particular brand of file. It will also not tell you how easy endodontic treatment is and that all canals can be shaped well and safely with the same 1-3 files.
What will be supplied for each participant:
- Microscope (Zumax)
- High & slow speed handpieces and burs
- Electric handpiece for shaping with rotary and reciprocating files
- Ultrasonic unit and tips

Advantages and disadvantages of each system are discussed as well as hybrid techniques. When one understands the concepts of rotary and reciprocating shaping, it should be easy to switch between most brands of files. If you use a file brand that is not listed here, you could bring some of these used or new files to the course.
- Extracted teeth

Course #2 Description
Course #2: Retreatment and other Complex Cases
This 2-day course consists of a combination of lecture and laboratory exercises (about 50% lecture and 50% hands-on working with extracted teeth). 18 hours of CE credit. Topics include re-treatment, removal of posts and separated instruments, MTA and similar materials, trauma, open apices, resorption, shaping and cleaning of difficult canal anatomy, and others. See Course Objectives below for more details.
The course material is relevant to all dentists, especially to those with a keen interest in diagnosing and treating complex endodontic cases. Dentists who have a microscope or who are considering acquiring one will find this course very useful.
The other 2-day Course #1 offered by Endodontics Unsponsored is titled Shaping, Cleaning, and Obturating Root Canal Systems. Course #1 provides plenty of information that is useful for dentists who are inexperienced and very experienced in endo. Course #1 is NOT ‘basic’. It is more relevant to the endodontic treatment that is done in a general practice. It is NOT a requirement to take Course #1 prior to Course #2, but many dentists who have taken Course #2 first and then Course #1 at a later date have said that they wish that they had taken Course #1 first.
Upcoming Course #2 Dates:
- Friday-Saturday, July 16-17, 2027 – SPACE AVAILABLE
Occasionally a course might be full but this website might not yet have been updated to show this.

- To learn more about when and how to treat perforations.
- To learn when and how to use MTA and other bioceramic materials.
- To learn more about endodontic re-treatment including removal of crowns/bridges, posts, gutta percha, pastes, Thermafil, silver points, separated instruments. (For a more thorough course about removing separated files, search for courses by Dr. Yoshi Terauchi who is the world’s guru at this).
